Member of the month: Corona Control

A key player in the development of safe and efficient regulatory solutions for green hydrogen projects

On a clear and sunny late summer day, Vätgas Sweden had the pleasure of visiting our member Corona Control’s headquarters in Stora Höga. There we met Mattias Ågren, product specialist at the company, to talk about their successes and future visions in green technology.

From process industry to green hydrogen projects

Mattias Ågren has worked at Corona Control as a product specialist for two and a half years. With a solid background in the valve industry and the process industry, combined with extensive international experience, he has developed a deep and broad competence in the industry, which today has led to him being responsible for Corona Control’s hydrogen investment in green technology.

Corona Control AB was founded in 1987 in Stenungsund, in the heart of the chemical industry. The company, which is part of the Indutrade group, currently has 21 employees with headquarters in Stora Höga and sales offices in Karlstad, Stockholm and Dals Långed. The company has expanded greatly and has outgrown its existing premises, which means that a brand new office, workshop and warehouse are currently being built a stone’s throw from the existing office. Estimated occupancy will take place in 2025.

With a focus on control equipment such as valves and instrumentation for the process industry, the company has built up a strong competence in the industry over the years. A question that has become relevant in recent years is what the name Corona Control aims for.

– The name Corona Control has nothing to do with the pandemic, explains Mattias Ågren. It comes from the sun’s outer atmosphere, the “corona,” which symbolizes our focus on precision and control.

Hydrogen will play an important role in the transition to green energy

In recent years, Corona Control has focused on developing its offer in green technology. As part of the green transition, the company works with valves and control equipment for hydrogen plants, where they offer solutions for everything from low to 900 BAR in pressure.

– We have previously worked with brown hydrogen, among other things in the chemical industry, but with the green technology, new demands are placed on hydrogen at higher pressures and new standards, says Mattias. This means that we work closely with our suppliers to be able to offer the best and safest solutions to our customers.

Hydrogen technology is still in its infancy, but Corona Control sees great potential in being a key player in the industry’s development. Today, green projects account for around 5% of the company’s turnover, but the goal is to increase this share to 10% within the next few years.

A skills-driven company in an immature industry

Mattias Ågren emphasizes that Corona Control does not just see itself as a product supplier, but rather as a partner who contributes expertise and solutions. The company strives to work with application-based solutions rather than just products, which allows them to adapt their offering to the specific needs of customers.

– Development of our own competence is important to meet the needs of the green transition, says Mattias. The industry is still immature, and we want to be there as a reliable partner throughout the process. Therefore, we need to develop our internal expertise and create new collaborations to further increase our competence and offer as the market grows and needs change.

Cooperation and holistic solutions are needed for the projects of the future

To meet the increasing demand, Corona Control collaborates with other companies and suppliers, both within and outside its product area. We believe that offering comprehensive solutions where our products are part of the solution is a must for future hydrogen solutions and systems in order for them to function safely and efficiently.

– We see more and more requests from customers who want to develop their businesses with the help of hydrogen technology, and we are keen to be involved in these projects, says Mattias.

Membership in Vätgas Sweden and the importance of the network

Corona Control has been a member of Vätgas Sweden for many years and sees great value in the network’s work, especially when it comes to training and networking. Mattias highlights the importance of matching the companies’ needs with each other within the network and gaining a holistic perspective on the industry.

– We really appreciate Vätgas Sweden’s ability to create contacts and bring together important players in the industry. An improved exchange within the network, where we can find cooperation partners and exchange experiences, would be very valuable for us, says Mattias in conclusion.

Corona Control looks forward with excitement to the future and the role the company can play in the green transition, where hydrogen is becoming an increasingly important part of the energy mix.
