Platinum is becoming an increasingly important metal for the production of green hydrogen

Today, the precious metal platinum is usually used when hydrogen is extracted from water. Thanks to its catalytic ability, the precious metal platinum is crucial for the production of green hydrogen and its use in the automotive sector. Unfortunately, platinum is an unusual and expensive metal and in many cases the metal is more expensive than gold, which means that it costs a lot to produce hydrogen in this way.

One question is whether the increased demand for hydrogen will affect demand, which today accounts for 1 percent of annual platinum demand. According to the World Platinum Investment Council, 11 percent of global platinum demand is expected to be used for hydrogen production by 2030.
